Where do your thoughts go
When they’ve had enough of you?
Where do you put them down
When they become too heavy to carry around in your head?
Do you place them gently in the pages of your journal, watch them tuck themselves in between the lines, lay their heads on your words, and fall asleep?
Do they tumble down the rainbow with a rush of excitement?
Do they put their hands up in joy, their little bodies covered in glitter and dreams?
Do you weave them into a lullaby and sing them to the night sky,
Wave to them as they are carried to the moon by the stardust of long-forgotten dreams?
Do they fly up high, round and round the clouds
Shape them into this and that and every other thing that happiness is made up?

Where do your thoughts go
When they’ve had enough of you?
Where do you put them down
When they become too heavy to carry around in your head?
Do they escape through your tears in a hot rush of pain
Slide down your cheeks into a puddle on your pillow?
Do you scream them into the abyss
Your rage propelling them with such dangerous velocity that even the darkness pulls its mantle out reach?
Do they drown in a sludge of despair,
Sinking into the quicksand of hopelessness
Slowly and agonisingly, inch by inch?
Do you toss them into the flames
Watch them rise up in angry sparks, a last-ditch attempt at life
Before they collapse in a mound of ash and soot?
Do they seep out of your skin as you sit under the shower hunched up and broken,
Mingling with the crimson life force that snakes its way towards the drain?
Where do your thoughts go to rest
When they’ve had enough of you?
Where do you put them down
When they become too heavy to carry around in your head?
