Untethered, Unafraid

Don’t keep me in your memories
I’m not afraid to be forgotten.
To be erased from
Your thoughts
Your heart
Your life
Your soul.

I want to leave no traces of me behind.
Not a word shall survive in a story
Nor in the pages of a diary,
In the passages of a book,
In the archives of history.

My life is fleeting …
Like bubbles on the surface of the water,
Footprints on the sand washed away by the sea
Morning dew that evaporates at first light
A whisper in the wind that is lost to the night.

I forego the last bastion of immortality humans crave
I seek to leave no legacy behind.
No stories whispered to the next generation,
No echoes lingering in the corridors of memory.

I am comfortable not existing beyond myself.
I embrace impermanence.
I crave to be a fleeting speck on the shore of life,
Swept away by the winds of time,
Untethered, Unbound, at peace

Don’t keep me in your memories
I am not afraid to be free.
